Moon plants stars soil trees microbes fungi mammals bees, we all are, URLAR.
URLAR = of the earth. As summer graces the Wairarapa, we rejoice at the year’s success and bask in the sunlight with all our URLAR friends.
This is represented in the woodcut above, created by New Zealand artist Catherine Sleyer. Catherine drew inspiration from the words above, an excerpt from the poem subtly featured on all our bottles. It embodies the idea that, through all seasons, we all are URLAR.
Cellar Door
The festive season is well and truly upon us here at the Cellar Door. We had a whole host of Christmas Parties - from small gatherings of friends and family to large work groups. It has been such a pleasure to host you all.
We recently released our festive menu featuring holiday favourites like baked brie, and Christmas fruit and chocolate tarts. Our bubbly-tasting flights have been particularly popular, especially on a sunny summer afternoon. If you would like to join us this side of Christmas we highly recommend booking to avoid disappointment.
Our team is taking a well-deserved break over the holidays. The Cellar Door will be open for bottle sales and tastings only between Friday 27th and Sunday 29th of December. We will be back for full service from Friday 3rd of January 2025.
The Cellar Door team would like to extend a huge thank you to all their customers for their support this year. We wish you a happy and safe festive season.
The Winery
Aaron and Grace are starting to look forward to next year’s vintage, planning the styles of wines that they intend to make. As the fruit develops in the vineyard they will work closely with our viticulturists to test the sugars, acidity, and other key indicators.
In the New Year, we have an exciting delivery arriving - 60 French Oak barrels made from 100-year-old Oak trees. The winery team is full of anticipation for their arrival and looking forward working with these over the coming seasons.
Our 2024 bubbly has just been sent off for bottling. We’re looking forward to sharing more about this with you in the New Year.
The Vineyard
When you look out over the vineyard - all you see is a sea of green as the vines grow more and more each day.
The vineyard team has worked hard over the past months to battle frost and cold snaps resulting in relatively little damage to the growing vines. Now they are busy tending to the new growth, planting new vines, and estimating bunches ahead of next year's harvest.
They are enjoying lapping up the good weather after a wet winter!
